River city days
The first week of August is River City Days in Red Wing. It is not anything overly exciting, but it is something to do during the summer. Lynn always has fun anyway.

It’s August!
We visited Concordia School and it went well. Lynn like her teacher, her classroom looked very similar to her preschool, and best of all is Lynn’s best buddy, Jack is going there too! She was sooo excited! We were also informed they gave us the wrong tuition rate. It is pretty much the same fee as Lynn’s preschool….. for full day Kindergarten!!! The curriculum is not the best I have seen, but it is what Lynn needs. It is a full day of socializing for an only child and a small class size is good for her. Other than that, we have had a pretty slow week.

The latest this week
We started our week with a service project at Urban Ventures. Click on the link to find out all about them. This first picture is of Lynn playing on the skateboarding park.
Jeremy, Lynn, and I were off to pull weeds at one of the areas Urban Ventures has placed a garden beside a bike path. Here is Lynn with my friend, Sarah or “Brooklynn’s mom” (Brooklynn is in the following entry).
The rest of my week has been planning for future endevors. I am planning a trip to see my best friend Gretchen in Virginia over my birthday. For those of you who don’t know, this year is my 30th and I wanted to spend it as a single lady with no kids. Jeremy and Lynn are planning to visit his parents while I am gone.
Tomorrow, all of us are visiting our top choice for Lynn’s school, Concordia Lutheran School. We will meet her kindergarten teacher, principle, and get a tour of the school. It appears there are only 7 other kids enrolled for kindergarten. I am thrilled! I think it will be a great transition from her preschool that only had 10 in her class. With Lynn going to school in Red Wing, this most likely means we will be sticking around Red Wing until spring. I’m sure this is the Lord’s timing. We can spend the time we are still commuting up to St. Paul to learn more about the area and establish a good foundation with Intervarsity.
As for Jeremy, for the next 2 weeks he will be filling in as a lead planner and making an extra $3/hour. His boss has mentioned they have asked him to do this in hopes he will assume the position soon. Today was his first day. He said he didn’t get much accomplished, but answered a few extra questions. I responded, “Well, at least you made an extra $3/hour doing nothing or nothing much extra…. cool.”

Swimming with Brooklynn
We took a dip in the public pool on Tuesday. I literally mean a “dip”. Lynn accomplished getting into the water herself and got wet up to her neck. She has yet to get her face and hair wet and/or go beyond 12 inches of water. Her friend, Brooklynn, dives in and makes friends in no time. I caught them doing one thing they both enjoy….. enjoying watermelon outside the water.

Our week
Dave and Diane stayed with us until bright and early Tuesday morning. We had a chance to share with them our church planting service at the park, give them a tour of our latest park in Red Wing, and have steaks on our deck. The only thing we missed was a 5am domestic dispute on Friday morning from our neighbors the street down from us. I guess there were police laying on their stomachs with rifles beside Jeremy’s truck across the street. The man had to be shot, then taken into custody. His wife had a fit in the police car and kicked out a window. Luckily, all of us were in asleep and heard nothing. I guess all was over by 6am. It was a great visit and it wasn’t long on Tuesday until Lynn started asking when grandma and grandpa were coming back.
Since thier departure, we seem to have keep things low key. Thursday, Lynn received a fresh haircut and my eyebrows were waxed. It was girl time. Lynn saw my eyebrows were red afterward and asked if it hurt. I said, “yes, it hurt.” She said, “What did you do when it hurt?” I said, “Well, I teared up pretty good, Lynn.” I find it too early to explain the idea of woman paying for induced pain for beauty. It will come with time as with all girls.
Next week promises to be more exciting. Jeremy and I should be making an appointment to see an apartment in St. Paul. I will be dedicating one or more days to looking at two schools in Red Wing for Lynn. Both sound great, but I could always use prayer for wisdom. We are hoping to meet with a professional (not me) carpet layer in the near future to do some measurements and install in our basement. Soon after, we hope to have a sign to sell our house by owner. How fast that time table moves is not a stress and will move when it needs to.

Highlights of the Horner’s visit
David and Diane arrived Wednesday night and will be here until Monday night. So far, it has been cold and gloomy every day while Lynn wears out grandma and grandpa. We visited Lark Toys and road the carousel.
Shortly after David and Diane’s arrival, they brought out box after box filled with Jeremy’s things. I will have to get a picture of all of the Star Wars toys that were brought. I caught this picture of Jeremy and David chasing each other with two of the ships.

What you missed from last week….
My apologies to all who have been anxiously checking for an update. For this week, I will do my best for fill you in on that last 2 weeks. Last Friday, I participated in my second “Free” garage sale. This one was held in St. Paul with some guys from my church. It was a wonderful day and a blessing to all who where there. Jeremy and I have successfully converted the nursery into an office. With the help of my in-laws, it has been repainted and officially has an “office” feel. As for Lynn, we try to squeeze in play dates as much as we can. I got some pictures of Lynn and her friend Vince at the Universal playground in Red Wing. I forgot to ask his parents permission to publish his photos on the internet, so I only have photos of Lynn.
This is the garden placed near the park for anyone to enjoy. Herbs and other veggies are planted intended for the visitors to come and take home and help replant.
Lynn on the swing!
